Geotechnical Party Chief (GA 2026)

A Party Chief is regarded as someone who is fully conversant in all aspects of geotechnical marine survey operations.
They can successfully lead and manage the Geotechnical Field Project Team during operations and will report directly to the Project Manager.
The Party Chief is expected to coach and assess members of the Geotechnical Project Team in line with the Competence Management Programme.
The Party Chief is responsible for ensuring that the overall aims of the project are achieved, to ensure health and safety requirements are met and reported, to liaise with the offshore and onshore client and company teams, and to manage the offshore team.
- Satisfactory completion of competence criteria and about 300 operational days experience and 15 mobilisations in the role, for at least one of the following: Senior Geotechnical Engineer (Field), Senior Operator
- Satisfactory completion of competence criteria for at least one of the following (but not the same skill as used above): Grade I Geotechnical Engineer (Field), Grade I Operator
- Valid and current offshore medical certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
- Valid and current offshore survival certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
Grade I Geotechnical (Field) Engineer (GA 2026)

In addition to being enrolled on this course you will also have been enrolled on the relevant 'Core Competency course'.
- Core competencies focus on essential activities that are applicable to all disciplines within the field of survey. The evidence you gather to complete the core competencies can therefore be used across all disciplines within this grade level.
- If these have already been completed, then no further action is required regarding the Core Competencies.
A Grade I Geotechnical Engineer (Field) is regarded as someone who is conversant with engineering aspects of marine survey operations.
Geotechnical Engineers are responsible for the analysis of soil, rock, groundwater and other earth materials prior to major construction projects. They will have experience in using IT systems and computer software
They can successfully participate in the Survey Team during operations and will report directly to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer.
The Grade I Geotechnical Engineer (Field) is expected to coach and assess junior members of the Survey Project Team in line with the Competence Management Programme.
The Geotechnical Engineer (Field) is ultimately responsible for ensuring that all geotechnical aspects of field works are performed correctly and that all acquired data is fit for purpose. Duties may include data acquisition, data interpretation and engineering.
- Satisfactory completion of the competence criteria for Geotechnical Engineer Grade II and be working towards Geotechnical Engineer Grade I
- Nominally 12 months including 80 days operational experience and 4 mobilisations as a Geotechnical Engineer Grade II OR Relevant Industrial, military or academic experience in Survey discipline
- Valid and current offshore medical certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
- Valid and current offshore survival certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
Grade I Geotechnical Operator (GA 2026)

A Grade I Geotechnical Operator is regarded as someone who is experienced in many aspects of geotechnical systems operations.
Geotechnical Operators are responsible for the preparation, set-up, testing and maintenance of Geotechnical equipment such as, Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) systems, vibrocore and seabed sampling tools to acquire geotechnical data offshore. They will have experience in an electro-mechanical role as well as experience using IT systems and computer software
They can successfully participate in the Survey Team during operations and will report directly to the Senior Survey Engineer.
The Grade I Operator is expected to coach and assess junior members of the Survey Project Team in line with the Competence Management Programme.
The Geotechnical Operator is responsible for the mobilisation, setup, maintenance and operations of all geotechnical systems.
- Satisfactory completion of the competence criteria for Operator Grade II and be working towards Operator Grade I
- Nominally 75 days operational experience and 4 mobilisations as an Operator Grade II
- Valid and current offshore medical certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
- Valid and current offshore survival certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
Grade II Geotechnical (Field) Engineer (GA 2026)

They can successfully participate under supervision, in the Geotechnical Project Team during operations and will report directly to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer.
The Grade II Geotechnical Engineer (Field) is expected to participate in the Competence Management Programme.
The Geotechnical Engineer (Field) is ultimately responsible for ensuring that all geotechnical aspects of field works are performed correctly and that all acquired data is fit for purpose. Duties may include data acquisition, data interpretation and engineering.
- Degree level qualification in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or approved related discipline
- Team player/ Good standard of IT literacy/ Good communication skills
- Valid and current offshore medical certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
- Valid and current offshore survival certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
- If currently working as a Grade II Geotechnical Field Engineer, and wishing to certify at this grade, then satisfactory completion of competence criteria for the grade is required
Grade II Geotechnical Operator (GA 2026)

- Qualification in an appropriate technical subject. Minimum level HNC/HND or appropriate technical and qualifications.
- Good standard of IT literacy/Team player/Good communication skills
- Valid and current offshore medical certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
- Valid and current offshore survival certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
- If currently working as a Grade II Geotechnical Operator, and wishing to certify at this grade, then satisfactory completion of competence criteria for the grade is required
Senior Geotechnical (Field) Engineer (GA 2026)

They can successfully manage the survey engineering team during operations and will report directly to the Party Chief.
The Senior Geotechnical Engineer (Field) is expected to coach and assess members of the Survey Team in line with the Competence Management Programme.
The Geotechnical Engineer (Field) is ultimately responsible for ensuring that all geotechnical aspects of field works are performed correctly and that all acquired data is fit for purpose. Duties may include data acquisition, data interpretation and engineering.
- Satisfactory completion of the competence criteria for Geotechnical EngineerGrade I and be working towards Senior Geotechnical Engineer grade
- Nominally 150 days operational experience and 8 mobilisations as a Geotechnical Engineer Grade I

Senior Geotechnical Operator (GA 2026)
