An ROV Supervisor is generally regarded as someone who can direct and lead personnel in order to achieve the outcomes of the work scope.

The Supervisor is also expected to coach colleagues in all aspects of sub-sea operations and maintenance. To this end, formal assessment qualifications are often required, and their ability to assess personnel is assessed in line with IMCA guidelines.

In practise there is some overlap between ROV Supervisor and ROV Superintendent. Job Summary:

An ROV Superintendent is regarded as someone who can manage the offshore team in order to achieve outcomes as required by the client and contracting company.

Due to the relative small size of the team the ROV Superintendent must also be hands on and capable of carrying out maintenance and operational tasks as required. It is for this reason that the operational experience forms an important part of the criteria for this grade.

The ROV Superintendent must also be proficient in most aspects of management and this is therefore assessed within this grade as an ongoing competence.

The ROV Superintendent is also expected to coach and assess colleagues in all aspects of sub-sea operations and maintenance. ROV Superintendents may apply for formal assessment qualifications which are awarded by the awarding body EAL. They are however assessed on their assessment skills within this grade in line with IMCA requirements.

The five competencies within this grade are also found within the ROV supervisor competencies. These competencies are considered to be essential within all supervisory roles. They therefore form the on-going competencies that must be repeated by personnel who wish to remain in the most senior role for offshore personnel involved in sub-sea operations.

Entry Specifications:
  • Be in possession of a current and valid offshore medical certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
  • Be in possession of a current and valid offshore survival certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
  • Achieve 180 days offshore experience at Supervisor Grade
  • Have a minimum of 72 months in the industry
