Job Summary:

An Able Seafarer (Deck) is regarded as someone who is able to demonstrate competence in safe deck and navigational watchkeeping during dynamic positioning operations, whilst working in at least one area of work covered by the following IMCA guidelines.

  • Anchoring
  • Heavy lifting
  • Diving support
  • Pipelay (rigid & flexible)
  • Well servicing
  • Survey & ROV Operations
  • Semi-submersibles.
Entry Specifications:
  • Valid certificate of competence (vessel 500GRT or more) in accordance with STCW Reg. 11/5 and appropriate seagoing service
  • Record of Competence should be in accordance with STCW Reg. VI/I and VI/6 and MARPOL 73/78 as amended
  • Record of Competence to be an Able Seafarer which needs to take cognisance of flag and coastal state requirements at an operational level
  • Record of Competence to be an Able Seafarer demonstrating knowledge of emergency procedures; formal training and assessment for assisting in an emergency situation
  • Current and valid medical certificate recognised by flag state
  • Medical First Aid in accordance with STCW Reg VI/4 (Table A-VI/4-1)
  • Valid certificates of training in personal survival; fire-fighting and fire prevention; first aid; and personal safety & social responsibility i.a.w. STCW reg VI/I
  • Security related training and instruction (STCW Reg VI/6)
  • Valid certificates of training for survival craft and medical care i.a.w. STCW Reg. VI/2
  • Adequate Knowledge of English language, both written and spoken in relation to the communication of the information relevant to the safety of life at sea
  • Candidates must have completed units of competence 15 and at least one unit from 6 to 9 before submitting them as part of their portfolio for this grade

Crane Operator (ICA 2026)

Job Summary:

An Offshore Crane Operator is regarded as someone who is fully conversant in all deck activities associated with the marine construction operation.

They can successfully operate the crane during operations and will report directly to the Deck Foreman when offshore.

The Crane Operator is also expected to liaise with members of the various teams during lifting operations. They are expected to participate in the competence assessment process.

Entry Specifications:
  • Must have completed Crew Competencies 1-3 or is submitting them as part of their portfolio for this grade
  • Appropriate experience to be a Crane Operator
  • Current and valid training certificate appropriate to crane operator
  • Record of competence to be a Crane Operator which needs to take cognisance of flag and coastal state requirements at an operational level demonstrating relevant experience offshore
  • Record of competence to be a Crane Operator, demonstrating knowledge of emergency procedures including formal training and assessment for assisting in an emergency situation
  • Current valid Survival & Medical Certificate
  • Appropriate level of communication skills

Deck Foreman (ICA 2026)

Job Summary:

A Shift Superintendent is regarded as someone who can manage the team in order to achieve outcomes as required by the client and contracting company.

The Shift Superintendent must also be proficient in most aspects of management and this is therefore assessed within this grade as an ongoing competence.

The Shift Superintendent is expected to coach and assess colleagues in all aspects of operations and maintenance. Shift Superintendent may apply for formal assessment qualifications which are awarded by the awarding body EAL. They are however assessed on their assessment skills within this grade in line with IMCA requirements.

Entry Specifications:
  • Valid and current offshore medical certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
  • Valid and current offshore survival certificate that is acceptable in the region of the world in which they are employed
  • Achieve 540 days offshore experience at Deck Foreman grade
  • Have a minimum of 72 months in the industry

Welder (ICA 2026)
