The Candidate

The person being assessed for competence certification. They must be in a role that enables them to achieve the competence criteria required.

They need to take responsibility for their enrolment including:

  • Assembling their portfolio of evidence,
  • Submitting their portfolio of evidence,
  • Improving skills and knowledge gaps identified during assessments and
  • Ensuring that they plan and carry out the work as agreed with their assessor/expert witness. 

The Assessor / Expert witness

The person who identifies clearly, with a candidate, what needs to be assessed and the assessment requirements. They determine the most appropriate range of methods to use in an assessment and then negotiate the assessment opportunities with the candidate and others who may be involved.

This will include:

  • Developing plans for assessing competence with candidates,
  • Assessing candidates’ performance against the agreed performance criteria,
  • Assessing candidates’ knowledge against the agreed underpinning knowledge criteria,
  • Judging the performance and knowledge against the criteria to make an assessment decision,
  • Provide feedback and support to candidates on assessment decisions.
